Many of people have often heard Greek and Roman gods, like Zeus or Jupiter, and people might often wonder what they have in common. The Greek and Roman gods are similar because they both have myths about them that have morals, and their personalities are the same for the most part; however, they are different in the ways that Greek and Roman gods looked totally different from each other and they were created at different times in history for different reasons.

One thing that Greek and Roman gods have in common are their personalities. Most of the time Greek gods and goddess have counterparts, which is the Roman version of them and vice versa. For example, Athena, a Greek goddess, is the goddess of wisdom, divine intelligence, and architecture; Minerva, a Roman goddess, is too the goddess of wisdom as well as the goddess of poetry, weaving, and commerce. “The Greeks and the Romans believed in the same gods but they had different names for them,” (Antigone Mythology). In continuation, “Cupid is the Roman god of Love and Eros is the Greek god of Love,”(Diffen). Cupid is also the Roman god of desire, and affection and his symbol is his bow and arrow. His Greek counterpart, Eros, is also the god of affection and his symbol is the bow and arrow. All in all Greeks and Romans have very similar personalities.

Another similarity that Greek and Roman gods share, is they both are in well known myths. Myths were created because the ancient greeks and romans wanted to tell a lesson so you could learn from it. In the story of Athena and Arachne, Arachne is a vain weaver that boasts about how good she is at weaving and even says that she’s better at it than Athena. However, when Athena heard that, she tried to give Arachne advice to not mess with a goddess but Arachne replied, “I don’t need your advice, I know best what I can do!” (Greek-Gods).

Another example is the story of Pandora’s box. In the story, Jupiter tries to trick a man named Epimetheus as revenge by giving his wife a box and told her to never open it, however, her curiosity got the best of her. “One day, when Epimetheus lay sleeping, Pandora stole the key and opened the box...Out flew every kind of disease and sickness, hate and envy, and...Hope flew out into the world,” (Mrdonn). Both of these myths have morals that are supposed to be depicted by the reader.

Greek and Roman gods differ very much though, because their physical appearance doesn’t look the same at all. Greek gods and goddess had very beautiful and handsome bodies that were just stunning. Greek gods were based more off of personality traits which helped in the making of their perfect physical appearance. “Greek gods are mainly based on human personality traits likes Love, Hate, Honour, Dignity and therefore...are shaped by these traits,” (Diffen). Roman gods on the other hand were more of a mere illusion. Roman gods weren’t given physical forms and they were represented only in the imagination of the people. “Roman gods are based on objects or actions rather than personality traits,” (Diffen). Therefore, they were only in the imaginations of the people.
