Green patches in stagnant water are aquatic plants or organisms.
This line refers to the organism Algae, however the word itself will not be used in the blank,  as in science we don't use the term " Aquatic Algae".

Answer: The correct answer of this question is algae.

Explanation:

Algae is one of the most important eukaryotic sheet like plants which can perform photosynthesis.

And to perform photosynthesis ,algae have significant amount of chlorophyll inside them.

Due to the presence of this chlorophyll, they are green in colour.

And algae mainly grows in the stagnant water because minimum amount of water flow can break the fragile body structure of the algae.
