'Green revolution' in India started in Third Five Year Plan in the year 1965
EXPLANATION:
- The Green Revolution began in 1965 with the launch of High Yielding Variety (HYV) seeds in agriculture. This was combined with better and effectual irrigation and the proper utilisation of fertilizers to improve crops. The outcome of this revolution was to make India self-contained with regard to food grains.
- After the year 1947 India had to rebuild its economy. Over ¾ of the populace was dependent on agriculture. However agriculture in India was facing several problems. The grains productivity was very low, and India was monsoon dependent owing to absence of irrigation and other infrastructure as well as lack of modern technology.
- Therefore in the year 1965, the govt. with the assistance of geneticists 'MS Swaminathan', was also known as the 'father of the Green Revolution', started the Green Revolution. The movement continued from 1967-1978 and was a very successful.
