1) Due to increase use of chemical fertilizers the fertility of the soil is decreasing.

2) Overuse of chemical fertilizers has also polluted the groundwater, rivers and lakes.

3) Higher production is possible only from a combination of HYV seeds, irrigation, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, etc.

i) In many areas, green revolution is associated with the loss of soil fertility due to excessive use of

chemical fertilizers.

ii) Continuous use of ground water for tube wells, irrigation has reduced the water table below the ground.

iii) Pesticides and insecticides pollute surface water.

iv) Chemical fertilizers kill some necessary bacteria like nitrogen fixing bacteria that plays an essential role

in providing natural fertility to the soil

v) Green revolution has limitations and puts adverse effect on environment as well as natural resources.

The over use of land and chemicals has created the problems of severe pollution.
