The above statement is true. The green revolution is associated with the loss of soil fertility.

Problem faced by the modern farming:

#The Green revolution uses chemical fertilizers, pesticides, weedicides, Insecticides which reduces the natural fertility of soil.

#It has also resulted in the degradation of soil.

# As the chemical fertilizers dissolve in the water they may escape from the soil and pollute ground water.

#The chemical fertilizers can also kill bacteria and other micro organisms in soil.

#As HYV seeds needs more irrigation facilities, it reduces the underground water level.

Explanation:

Environment has been adversely affected by the green revolution, because:

i) In many areas, green revolution is associated with the loss of soil fertility due to excessive use of

chemical fertilizers.

ii) Continuous use of ground water for tube wells, irrigation has reduced the water table below the ground.

iii) Pesticides and insecticides pollute surface water.

iv) Chemical fertilizers kill some necessary bacteria like nitrogen fixing bacteria that plays an essential role

in providing natural fertility to the soil

v) Green revolution has limitations and puts adverse effect on environment as well as natural resources.

The over use of land and chemicals has created the problems of severe pollution.
