In plants the cells which help to grow are the meristematic cells which are under continuous division.Only specific regions of the plant body has these type of cells. The two regions where it is present are the internodes, present at the tips of roots and shoots

The reason for this is the presence of meristematic cells which are present only in some regions in the plant.
Meristematic tissues are cells or group of cells that have the ability to divide. These tissues in a plant consist of small, densely packed cells that can keep dividing to form new cells......
Hope this helps...All the best.
