guard cells are the cells that guard the stomatal pores of plants. . all plants the Girard cells remain closed when photosynthesis isn't taking place and opens when it's in action

hence..
it is obvious that the guard cells are elastic for the opening and closing of the stomatal pores..

their main function is protection..
and opening and closing..
if the guard cells had been rigid then they wouldn't have been carrying on their work properly..
hence they are elastic in nature..
