Answer:

During the process of production of a cocoon, the caterpillars produce an insoluble protein (known as fibroin) in their silk glands. This protein is then mixed with a small amount of soluble gum produced by them

The final mixture is then secreted to obtain a single and continuous silk fibre of about 300 to 900 meters in length. The cocoon which is newly formed may be white or yellow in color.

Answer:

Caterpillar has many self defensive measures. These salivary proteins of blood feeding are helping their defense and induce them in the hosts and this is contrasting to herbivores.

There are helpless victims which are getting elicited by the oral secretion of the caterpillar. Caterpillar regurgitate hence can lower the toxic nicotine amount which is relapsed. This is a gum like structure.
