5.18 g of copper metal is first converted to copper nitrate and subsequently to 6.45 g CuO. In another ecperiment 1.10g vopper gave 1.37 g CuO on combustion. Show that the above data verify the law of constant composition.

Answer:

19.7%

Explanation:

Mass of oxygen in first observation = 6.45 - 5.18 =1.27 g

percentage of oxygen in CuO = 1.27/6.45×100=19.68%

Mass of oxygen in second observation =1.37-1.10=0.27 g

Percentage of oxygen in CuO =0.27×100/1.37=19.7%

Since the percentage of oxygeninboth the sample of CuO is constant , therefore the law of constant composition is verified.
