gun fires a bullet of mass 50 g. The bullet moving with a velocity of 100 m/s strikes a sand bag and gets embedded after travelling 10 cm. Calculate:- 1)The resistive force exerted by the sand on the bullet. 2)The time taken by the bullet to come to rest.

Mass of bullet (m) = 50 g = 0.050 kg

initial velocity of bullet (u) = 100m/s

distance travelled by bullet (s) = 10 cm = 0.1 m

We know ,

v²  - u² = 2 as

0 - (100)² = 2 x a x 0.1

-1000 /0.1 = 2a

-10000 = 2a

a = - 5000 m/s²

resistive force = m x a

= 0.05 x(- 5000)

= - 250 N

Time taken

v = u + at

0 = 100 - 5000 t

-100 /5000 = t

t = 0.02 seconds
