In plants, most of the water is released in a form of vapors whereas some in a form of liquid. The release or discharge of water in a form of liquid is called Gutation.

Guttations occurs in response to environmental fluctuations. It is characterized as drops of water that appear along the margins of leaves, discharge through special pores called hydathodes.

Hydathods are modified stomatas present at the endings of veins on the surface of a leaf.
