A reflex, or reflex action, is an involuntary and nearly instantaneous movement in response to a stimulus. A reflex is made possible by neural pathways called reflex arcs which can act on an impulse before that impulse reaches the brain.

Reflex action is a sudden action in response to something in the environment. e.g., pulling out hand from the flame if accidently touched. The path of the reflex action is as follows : Receptors → sensory neuron → spinal cord → motor neuron → effector .
