Given :

ρ(oil) = 0.9 g/cc

ρ(mercury) = 13.6 g/cc

ρ (CCl₄) = 1.6 g/cc

Take a reference level at point D.

At this reference level pressure in both the limbs must be equal,

⇒ [ ρ (mercury) x g x (20-h) ] + [ ρ (oil) x g x h ] = ρ (CCl₄) x g x 20

⇒ 13.6 x g x (20-h) + 0.9 x g x h = 1.6 x g x 20

⇒ 0.9h + 13.6(20-h) = 1.6 x 20

⇒ 272 - 12.7h = 32

⇒ h = (272 - 32) / 12.7

  ∴ h = 18.897 cm.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU !!  : )
