Answer:

a) Area of triangle ABC = 1/2 ×base × height

= 1/2 × 4 × 3

= 6 cm^2

b) Area of triangle DEF = 1/2 × base × height

= 1/2 × 4 ×3

= 6 cm^2

Step-by-step explanation:

 \scriptsize(a) \:  \: area \: of \: triangle \:  =  \frac{1}{2}  \times base \times height

height AB = 3cm and base BC = 4cm

 \scriptsize{So, area  \: of \:  triangle  \: ABC =  \frac{1}{2}   \times 4 \times 3}

 =  \frac{1}{ \cancel2}  \times  \cancel{12}

 = 6 \: cm

(b.)

∵ AP || BR and distance between them is 3 cm

∴ DX = 3 cm

Since the perpendicular from the vertex of the triangle to the base bisects the base.

∴ EX = 2 cm and FX = 2 cm

So , area of triangle DEF = area of triangle DEX + area of triangle DFX

  =  \frac{1}{2}  \times 2 \times 3 +  \frac{1}{2}  \times 2 \times 3

 =  \frac{1}{ \cancel2}  \times  \cancel6 +  \frac{1}{\cancel2} \times  \cancel6

 = 3 + 3

 = 6 \: cm
