on heating gypsum at 373 kelvin gypsum loses its water molecules and gets changed into calcium sulphate hemihydrate ( CASO4 * 1/2 H20) that is plaster of Paris.

equation :

CASO4 * 2H20 = CASO4 * 1/2 H2O
