3. Formed when oceanic crust is subducted into mantle, medium silica and gas content and
intermediate viscosity
4. Occurs when water or carbon dioxide are added to rock.
5. It is a general term for describing the relative temperature and pressure conditions
under which metamorphic rocks form
6. It is an igneous intrusive rock body that has cooled in the crust.
7. These rocks are comprised of large crystals that are clearly visible to the eye with or with
a hand lens or binocular microscope.
7. A type of movement resulting from the compression of rock strata (rock layers).
8. These are folded rocks that arch upward and dip away from the center of the fold.
9. Process wherein as piles of sediments accumulate, the materials below are compacted b
the weight of the overlying layers.
10. The branch of geology concerned with the order and relative position of strata and their
relationship to the geological time scale.

Answer:
Median is capable of estimation even in the case of certain incomplete
series. It is enough if one knows the number of items and the middle
item(s) of the series.
Demerits :
1. When the median is located somewhere between the two middle values,
it is determined through arithmetic average of those middle values. In
such cases, median remains only an approximate measure.
2. Arithmetic mean is capable of further algebraic treatment, but median
is not. For example, unlike in the case of arithmetic average, multiplying
the median with the number of items in the series, will not give us the
sum total of the values of the series.
3. The median is not influenced by extreme values. As such it is not a proper
average in those cases where extreme value are of much importance.
Uses
1. It is an appropriate measure of central tendency when the characteristics
are not measurable but different items are capable of being ranked.
2. Median is used to convey the idea of a typical observation of the given
data.
3. Median is the most suitable measure of central tendency when the
frequency distribution is skewed. For example, income distribution of
the people is generally positively skewed and median is the most suitable
measure of average in this case.
4. Median is often computed when quick estimates of average are desired.
of Positional Measures 1.3.3 Other Partition
Median is a value which divides a series of data into two equal
parts. It is also possible to divide it into more than two equal parts. The values
that divide a distribution into more than two equal parts are commonly known
as partition values. Some important partition values are discussed in the
following sections.
