Carbon dating is a method  is a method to estimate the  age of carbon containing materials like trees.

✔Carbon (C) has three naturally occurring isotopes.

✔Both C-12  and C13 are stable, but C-14 decay to nitrogen-14 with a half -life of approximately 5730 years.

✔Animals and plants naturally incorporate both the C-12 and C-14 during their lifetimes.

✔When a creature dies, it ceases to consume more radiocarbon while the C-14 already in its body continues to decay back into nitrogen.

✔With the help of C-12 to C-14 ratio we can estimate the age of dead plants and animals.

✔Histories of archaeology often refer to its impact as the "radiocarbon revolution".

✔Radiocarbon dating has allowed key transitions in prehistory to be dated, such as the end of the last ice age, and the beginning of the Neolithic and Bronze Age in different regions.

heya !!!

☆This carbon dating was developed by Willard Libby and invented by Martin Kamen

☆Carbon dating is also called as radiocarbon dating or carbon - 14 dating.

■WHAT IS CARBON DATING :

It is a method which is used for determining the age of an object containing organic material by using a radioactive isotope of carbon .

■HOW IT WORKS :

◇Radiocarbon dating works by comparing the three different isotopes of carbon .

◇Isotopes of a particular element have the same number of protons in their nucleus , but different number of neutrons.

◇Most radioactive carbon is produced in the upper atmosphere where neutrons , which are produced by cosmic rays react with nitrogen atoms .

■IT IS USED FOR :

◇Carbon dating is a method or way in determining the age of certain archaeological artifacts of biological origin up to about 50,000 years old .

◇It is used in dating things such as BONE , CLOTH , WOOD AND PLANTS FIBERS that were created in the relatively recent past by human activities .

hope it helps u dear ^_^
