mitochondria is the site of cellular respiration or oxidation of food . As a result of it energy is released which is stored as ATP (asenosine triphosphate) whenever energy is needed by the cell the stored ATP is used .As mitochondria generates energy as ATP it is called the power House of the cell

Mitochondria are the site of the cellular respiration. They use molecular oxygen from air to oxidize the carbohydrate and fats that are present in the cell to Carbon dioxide and water vapour. Mitochondria provide energy in the form of ATP for various metabolic reaction of living Cell. Since, the mitochondria synthesised ATP, it is also know as Power house of the cell.

ATP is the Adenosine Triphosphate. ATP is known as the energy currency of the cell. It is the most common cellular fuel that drives many energy requiring of the cell.

Steps for the fate of glucose in the release of Energy...

1.In Cytoplasm, glucose enters( containing 6 atoms of Carbon).

2. Broken into two Pyruvic acid molecules (containing 3 atoms of Carbon).

3. In mitochondria oxidized in Carbon dioxide, Water and ATP.
