H₂COH · CH₂OH on heating with periodic acid gives formaldehyde

-The formula of periodic acid is HIO4

-It is a mild oxidising agent

- So it oxidises alcohols into aldehydes with the removal of water molecule

-  When ethylene glycol is heated with it, then formaldehyde is formed as:  H₂COH · CH₂OH + HIO4 ---> 2 HCHO

- So the correct answer is (c)
