H2S+Cl2→2HCl+S
1)H2S is oxidized.
It is the removal of hydrogen.
2)Cl2 is reduced.
It is the addition of hydrogen.
3)Cl2 is the oxidizing agent.
  As
H2S is oxidized by Cl2.
4)H2S is reducing agent.
As Cl2 is reduced by H2S.
What is oxidized will be the reducing agent.
What is reduced will be the oxidizing agent.

H2S + Cl2 → S + 2HCl

1) H2S is oxidised to S by losing hydrogen atoms.
2) Cl2 is reduced to HCl by gaining hydrogen atoms.

3)Cl2
The substance which gets reduced is called oxidising agent. Hence Cl2 is oxidising agent.
H2S + Cl2 → S + 2HCl

4) H2S
The substance which gets oxidised is called reducing agent. Hence H2S is reducing agent.
