Basicity of an acid is the number of replaceable H+ ion the acid can furnish in its aqueous state.

For finding out the basicity of Acids containing phosphorus ( here, H3PO2, H3PO3 and H3PO4), we must know their structures.

So according to their structures, only those hydrogen ion will be replaced in aqueous state Which are linked with Oxygen atom. If the hydrogen atom is linked with Phosphorus atom then there won't be any loss of such a hydrogen atom.

But remembering the structures can be a tiresome process. So I can suggest a quick shortcut method to find out the basicity here.

The basicity here, will be equal to =

(no. of Oxygen atoms in the acid — 1)

H2PO2 -

Basicity = 2–1= 1 → Monobasic acid.

2. H3PO3 -

Basicity = 3–1 = 2 → Dibasic acid.

3. H3PO4 -

Basicity = 4–1=3 → Tribasic acid.

So out of the three acids, only H3PO4 is Tribasic acid.

Hope, this answer helps... :)

Answer:

H3PO2 is monobasic acid,H3PO3 is dibasic acid and H3PO4 is tribasic acid. ... In case of acid of phosphorusacidic nature depend on how many OH is present in structure because it showacidic nature due to only these H .The H which is directly attached to phosphorus show reducing nature of acid only.
