Power plants that uses geothermal energy (the energy of the sun that stored by the earth) to generate power is known as geothermal power plant. Currently 24 countries around the world has their own geothermal power plant.

Even though it is one of the clean source of energy habitat destruction is one of the major threat that is created by the geothermal power plants.  Geothermal power plants drill the earth about 250 to 300 feet to generate power which may result in man made earthquake.

Geothermal power plant can create long lasting conflict between heritage sites and habitats.
