Initially in India all money transactions in day to day life were made by using cash, checks or demand drafts.
Inna 2010 Vijay Shekhar came up with an idea of setting a digital platform to complete all day to day transactions easily and hassle-free.
He opened his website named as "www.paytm.com" and registered is with the name of One97 Communications Ltd. that year itself and at that time that website was used only for mobile recharges and top ups.
Then year by year he integrated more ideas and made his website useful for other type of transactions too.
Then after some years he launched his app based on this platform in India. its major competitor was "www.freerecharge.com" which was giving it neck to neck competition.
The major boost in the history of Paytm came on 8 November 2016 when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetization and supported digital transaction.
