Hailstones fall from a certain height. If they melt completely on reaching the ground,
the height from which they fall in kilometers is (g = 10 m/s2, L = 80 cal/g and 1cal =
4.186 J). Express the answer upto two digits after decimal point. (Ignore round off)

Answer:

given = L = 80 cal/g and 1cal =

            g = 10 m/s²

to find = height = ?

solution =

L = 80 cal/g = 80/ 10⁻³ = 80 X 10³

1% of mass of the hail stone melts

mgh =

h =  JL /  100 X g

h = 4.2 X 80 X 10³ / 100 X 10

h = 336 m

THE height  336 m  from which they fall .and reaching the ground.
