Half of a herd of deer are grazing in the field and three-fourths of the remaining are playing near by . The rest 9 are drinking water from the pond . Find the number of deer in the herd.​

Step-by-step Explanation

Let total herd of deer is x.

Half of herd are grazing = x/2

three-fourth of remaining are playing

 \frac{3}{4} (x -  \frac{x}{2} )

 \frac{3}{4}  \times  \frac{x}{2}

= 3x/8

Rest drinking = 9

Total Herd = Grazing + Playing + drinking

x =  \frac{x}{2}  +  \frac{3x}{8}  + 9

x -  \frac{x}{2}  -  \frac{3x}{8}  = 9

Taking LCM on L.H.S

 \frac{8x - 4x - 3x}{8}  = 9

x = 9 X 8

x = 72 deers.
