Hanif burnt a magnesium ribbon using a spirit lamp and on the basis of his observations he said that the type of chemical reaction taking place is combination as well as exothermic as well as oxidation. Do you agree with Hanif? Give reasons for your answer and explain.

Yes I agree with Hanif.
Explanation:
The burning of a magnesium ribbon is is an exothermic reaction in other words a redox reaction as the reaction is Mg+O2=MgO. Here the oxidation number of both Mg and O2 changed from 0 to +2 and -2. As a by product of the reaction we get a lot of heat so it is a exothermic reaction. As O2 is the one that is burning the Mg ribbon so it can also be called an oxidation or combustion reaction. So what hanif said was correct.
Hope it helped.
