Hard water produces less foam with detergent explain?

garima0910: hard water contain Ca and Mg which react with detergent and form precipitate called scum whereas in tap water their is no scum formation therefore hard water form less foam

This is because when a calcium and magnesium particle react with detergent molecule, the new substance does dissolved in water, so there is no scum.
