1) The hardness which is due to presence of bicarbonates of Ca and magesium is called PERMANENT HARDNESSS.

2)Due to presence of Ca2+ ion and Mg2+ ion in water it becomes unsuitable to wash cloths by soap.As when soap are uaed in hard water the ions present jn water reacts woth molecules of Soap to form an substance called scum and destroys the cleansing action of soap.

3)If we use detergents in place of soap in hard water then we can easily wash oir cloths effectively.

4)Saops are Na or K salt of higher fatty acids.

5) Detergents are Na salt of sulphonic acids.

Remember

1)To remove permanent hardness of water we need to treat it with Na2Co3(Sodium carbonate)

2)To remove temporary hardness we simply heat it and it will be removed.
