ANSWER:-

160 bags of goodies are packed in the 3rd box.

GIVEN:-

Bags of goodies packed by Harold for 3 boxes = 480 bags

Bags of goodies packed in the 2nd box = Thrice as many goodie bags as in the first box

TO FIND:-

Bag of goodies packed in the 3rd box = ?

SOLUTION:-

Let the bags of goodies packed in 1st box be = x

Let the bags of goodies packed in 2nd box be = 3x

Let the bags of goodies packed in 3rd box be = (x + 80)

x + 3x + (x + 80) = 480

4x + x + 80 = 480

5x + 80 = 480

5x = 480 - 80

5x = 400

x = 400/5

x = 80

So, bags of goodies packed in 1st box is 80.

Bags of goodies packed in 2nd box are thrice then in 1st box = 3x = (3 × x)

(3 × x) = 3 × 80

3 × 80 = 240

2nd box = 240 bags of goodies.

Bags of goodies packed in 3rd box = (x + 80)

(x + 80) = 80 + 80

80 + 80 = 160

3rd bag = 160 bags of goodies.

So, their are 80 bags of goodies in the 1st box, 240 bags of goodies in the 2nd box and 160 bags of goodies in 3rd box.

A SIMPLE CHECK:-

Add the bags in 1st box + 2nd box + 3rd box = Total bags

Bags in 1st box = 80

Bags in 2nd box = 240

Bags in 3rd box = 160

80 + 240 + 160

80 + 240 + 160 = 480

Hence, checked and our answer is correct.
