One of the most distinguishing features of the Harrapan Civilization was its urban planing. Most of the Harrapan cities were organised in a grid-like pattern.The orientation of the streets and buildings was done to the cardinal directions.The towns were planned in a rectangular grid like pattern. Most of them were fortified and contained an elavated western part called the citadel and a large eastern section called the lower town.
