When the British started trading with China, they needed Opium which could be exported into Chinese markets. This changed their attitude towards opium cultivation due to which they put pressure on Indian farmers to grow Opium. This Opium was exchanged by the East India company to buy tea and silk from China which could be exported to England.

The production of opium is taking over the world drastically.
Earlier, the west used to force Indian farmers for the production of opium whereas now the time has changed and they are growing the opium on their own.
They are also using it at a large level because of the profits earned by it.
