Hasan , the serang of Ranaganji was a noble and heroic character. Although he looked physically ugly, he was an embodiment of true himanity, nobility, kindness , and large heartedness , when some of the crew were diagnosed with smallpox, Hasan came to the assistance of Dr. Cronin. He prepared a temporary tent in the deck of the ship for smallpox victims. He carried the weak patients in his own hands without worrying about. When some of the patients died of small pox , he gave them a decent sea - burial after reading out a passage of Ramayana although he is muslim..This action was highly significant as he was a muslim by faith.
Hasan was least bothered about his own safety. And also in the monetary benefits for his service. He was highly sincere and dedicated. He possed courage, self - control and faith.
