It’s a basic survival situation, where you are stranded in the forest, you need only three things. Water, Food and Shelter. With those things, you can survive.
If you are trying to be prepared for a night in the wild, having a lighter, flashlight, pocketknife, warm clothing and a canteen will all help.
I have a small fanny-pack prepared, which I can grab at a moment’s notice. It has some basic survival supplies inside, including water purification tablets, paracord, space blanket, waterproof matches, bullion cubes, a canteen, a signal mirror, sewing kit and other stuff. If I’m out for a short hike, I keep this on me in case I’m injured and can’t return on schedule.
It’s extremely important to let people know you’re leaving and where you’re going. When hiking, it’s always preferable to go with a partner, rather than alone. You may be in a remote area without any cell reception, so be prepared to stay overnight for a couple days, even if it’s just a day hike.
