Answer:
Finally something I will enjoy telling my story. Back this July, I climbed La Plata Peak, but Clive’s doesn’t sound right to me so I will call it more of a hike. We had to start off at 4am in order to have a safety window of being below tree line by noon. (We planned on eating at the top). It was very dark are chilly when we begun, but I had been equipped with a headlamp and three layers. We had begun our excursion through a mile of private property, which had two rivers to cross, both of which very had slippery bridges. This section also had a steep set of stairs to go up, but they weren’t much of a problem. After getting out of this forest, we begun our trip toward the trail up the mountain. We got to see some beautiful mountains in the area, many of which were not ours.
We continued up and while waiting for a slower member of our group got passed by a dog! The dog was shy but took some photos with us. We continued up, minus one who had returned down. After several switchbacks, we started to see a bunch of rocks and exited tree line (~12000ft). We got to start seeing as hearing more American Pika and Yellow-Bellied Marmot. After hiking along more switchbacks, we could finally see the summit and the summit ridge. The air was noticeablely thinner, even with being adapted to 8000ft. Many of those forging ahead earlier had started to succumb to altitude sickness and lagged behind. After a final push on the Rocky Summit ridge we had made it…..Blast! A false summit, the true summit behind about 100yards away and a slight uphill. Once we picked ourselves back up and made it over we celebrated! 14336 feet! (Keep in mind I level at a measly 400ft so it was high) The views were astounding and I took it all in and was thankful I had made without having an ill effects.
