Why is Tamil not our national language?

When does a language become a national language? Only when the whole nation can use the language. And our country has over 200 mother tongue and 22 majorly spoken languages. So picking a national language would be tedious or almost impossible in our country.

Hence we officially don’t have a national language. And yes, Hindi is not our national language. we have Hindi and English as our official language at the central government level. And the states can have their own chosen official language.

Trying to impose Hindi as a national language is what led to the agitation in Tamil Nadu decades back.

So, i guess you will now know why Tamizh can’t considered as the national language. Though it is the first legally recognized classical language of India.
