Here is the answer.

M + 2HCl ---> MCl2 + HYDROGEN GAS

M + 2NaOH ----> Na2MO2 + H2 (gas)

Zinc metal reacts with dilute HCl to produce zinc chloride and Hydrogen gas.
Zn + 2HCl ---> ZnCl2 + H2

Similarly Zinc metal reacts with NaOH to evolve Hydrogen gas.

Test for hydrogen gas:
if we bring a burning match stick near hydrogen gas, it burns with pop sound.

So X = Zinc metal
And Y= Hydrogen gas.
So other metals like X are Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium , potassium etc.
