HCl and HNO3 show acidic characters in aqueous solutions because they ionise to form hydronium ions. HCl liberates H+ and cl- ions when reacted with water. HNO3 liberates H+ and NO3- ions when reacted with water. It is these hydrogen ions that give them their acidic properties. While alcohol and glucose solutions don't ionise at all.
