the enzyme is called pepsin

three functions of hydrochloric acid in the stomach are
1. it converts inactive pepsinogen to pepsin so that it can digest protein.

2. it is all the germs present in the food.

3. the enzyme pepsin requires in acidic medium to act on protein so that it can be digested. so hydrochloric acid makes the medium acidic so that pepsin can act .
