HCL helps to churn the food into a paste so that it can be digested easily. It doesn't has any effect on out stomach because the lining our stomach is covered with mucus, which protects it from HCL acid.

The stomach is protected from the effect of HCl as there is another layer on the stomach from the inside known as Mucus. It protects stomach from the damage which could be done by the HCl.
