1. Functions of Gram Panchayat are:-

  • Obligatory functions
  • Discretionary functions
  • Welfare Functions - They take care of the civic amenities of the  rural people that is they provide safe drinking water,maintains public wells,tanks,provides health care facilities setting up dispensaries,maintains footpaths,roads,street lights.
  • Developmental Functions-minor irrigation schemes,provides vocational educations,rural electrification,promotes cottage and small-scale industries,rural housing for poors.
  • Regulatory and Administrative functions-Registrations of birth ,deaths,marriages,maintainance of watch and ward services ,
  • Judicial Functions - Speedy and inexpensive Justice to the village folks.

2. The representation women has been raised to 50% . Yes , the represenstation is justified because the village areas are male-dominated where the problems of women remain unheard. More women representatives would understand the issues of the women and give them proper solution .

3. Importance of  Panchayati Raj institution is that it aims for the rural development in every aspect . It governs Zila parishad and panchayat  samitis.

4. Nyaya Panchayat is to secure speedy justice for the villagers. Petty civil cases relating to movable property and minor offences such as trespass,cheating ,petty thefts.

5. Gram Sabha is the centre of self -governance at rural level. It ensures direct and participative democracy to all adults registered as voters in the Panchayat area. It offers equal opportunity to all citizens to elect 'Gram Pradhan' (President) who has tenure of 5 years.
