change into passive voice
class 7th
Answers
Given sentence: He has read the Upanishad.
Passive voice: The Upanishad has been read by him.
- The given sentence is in present perfect tense.
- And while changing the voice of a sentence which is in past perfect tense, it should be formed in the structure: Object + have/has + been + past participle form of verb + by + subject.
- According to the given sentence, the object part is "The Upanishad", the subject is "he" and the verb is has read.
- The verb should be in third form and the third form of read is read (no change in spelling, so remains same).
- And the he should be changed to him in passive voice.
- Now, by arranging all these in the structure, we get the answer - The Upanishad has been read by him.

In a sentence, to say whether its subject performs the action or whether it receives the action, we define it with voices. There are two types of voices in English grammar.
(1) ACTIVE VOICE:
A sentence is said to be in active voice if it's subject performs the action to the object. Look at the following sentence!
In the above sentence, we can find that the subject is lion, and it does the action to the object (the deer), with the verb 'chased'. So it's in active voice as the subject does the action.
(2) PASSIVE VOICE:
A sentence is said to be in passive voice if the subject receives the action from the object. Now, let's find the passive voice of the example sentence of active voice (The lion chased the deer).
Here, the object (the deer) performs the action to the subject (the lion) or we can say that the subject receives the action.
