What is Voice of a verb?

The voice of a verb expresses whether the subject in the sentence has performed or received the action. There are two types of voices, Active Voice and Passive Voice.

• Active Voice:- It is the form of the verb which means the action is performed by the subject in a sentence.
• Ex: The author wrote several books.

• Passive Voice:- Here, the action of the verb is done to the subject from/by the object in a sentence.
• Ex: Several books were written by the author.
• In this sentence, the the subject receives the action of the verb.

Rules:-

1. Identify the Subject, Verb and object in the sentence.

2. Interchange the object and subject with each other.

3. Change the base verb into the past participle form of the verb.

4. While changing the voice, the pronoun used in the sentence should also be changed, like:

• I → Me
• We → Us
• They → Them
• He → Him
• She → Her
• You remains unchanged
• It remains unchanged

5. Use suitable helping verb according to the tense.

Passive- Pictures are painted by Jane.
