ANSWER-

By these words Hari implies that the theft had been discovered since the notes were still wet  from the last night’s rain. However, Anil’s pretended ignorance about the matter was perhaps a chance he had given to Hari Singh to reform himself. [ COPY PASTE THIS FOR FULL MARKS ]

EXPLANATION -

The narrator Hari Singh robbed Anil and took the bundle of notes under Anil's bed and he ran away. But the guilt stopped him from boarding the train and he roamed aimlessly in the bazaar. Then it started raining and the notes got wet. He decided to go back and slept.

When the next day Anil gave him 50 rupees and told him about him getting paid everyday, when he touched the note it was still wet

this observation made him think that Anil knew that Hari Singh had robbed him.
