Milk = 5/9x


Water = 4/9x


When we add 2 liters of water we get:


4/9x + 2


The new ratio is :


(5/9x)/(4/9x + 2) = 10/9


9(5/9x= = (4/9x + 2)10


5x = 40/9x + 20


45x = 40x + 180


45x - 40x = 180


5x = 180


x = 180/5


x = 36


Water = 4/9 × 36 = 16 liters
