Indirect Speech/Reported Speech is speech being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.
Example: She said, "I have a match tomorrow." (Direct)
She said that she had a match the next day. (Indirect/Reported)
In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense form. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'this' changes to 'that', 'tonight' changes to 'that night', 'tomorrow' changes to 'the next day', 'you' changes to 'I' and many other words will have to be made.
He said to me, "Were you absent from the class yesterday?"
He asked me whether I was absent from the class the previous day.
Hope it helps :)
