8

GIVEN

Let one of the number be x

The other number will be 184 - x

Difference is 8

According to the Question ,

1/3 of x exceed 1/7 of 184-x by 8

1/3 x - 1/7 (184 - x) = 8

=> x/3 - (184 - x) / 7= 8

=> [7x - 3(184 - x)]/21 = 8

=> [7x- 552 + 3x]/21 = 8

=> 10x - 552 = 21 × 8

=> 10x = 168 + 552

=> 10x = 720

=> x = 72

The other number will be 184 - 72=112

Therefore the smallest number is 72(Ans)
