Given :  Heat is transferred to a heat engine from a furnace at a rate of 90 MW. If the rate of waste  heat rejection to a nearby river is 55 MW.

To Find : Determine the net power output and the  thermal efficiency of this heat engine.

Solution:

Heat is transferred to a heat engine from a furnace at a rate of 90 MW

INPUT  = 90 MW

the rate of waste  heat rejection to a nearby river is 55 MW

WASTAGE = 55 MW

net power output = INPUT  - WASTAGE

= 90 - 55

= 35MW

thermal efficiency of this heat engine. = (NET OUPUT/ INPUT) * 100

= (35 / 90) * 100

= 38.89 %

NET OUPUT = 55MW

EFFICIENCY = 38.89 %
