Elimination method :

ax + by = c ...(i)

bx + ay = 1 + c ...(ii)

{(i) × a} and {(ii) × b} give

a²x + aby = ac

b²x + aby = b + bc

On subtraction, we get

(a² - b²)x = ac - b - bc

⇒ x = (ac - b - bc)/(a² - b²)

Again {(i) × b} and {(ii) × a} give

abx + b²y = bc

⇒ abx + a²y = a + ac

On subtraction, we get

(b² - a²) y = bc - a - ac

⇒ y = (bc - a - ac)/(b² - a²)

⇒ y = (ac + a - bc)/(a² - b²)

So, required solution is

x = (ac - b - bc)/(a² - b²)

y = (ac + a - bc)/(a² - b²)
