• Distance is the measure of path travelled by a body whereas displacement is shortest distance between the starting position and final position.

• Distance has only magnitude whereas displacement has magnitude as well as direction.

• Distance is dependant on the path the body travels while displacement is not dependant on the paty the body travels.

• Distance is always positive whereas displacement may be positive or negative.

• Distance can be more than or equal to displacement whereas displacement can never be greater than distance.

• Distance may not be zero even if displacement is zero but displacement is zero when distance is zero.

see displacement is the length of the shortest route between the starting and ending points.


whereas distance is said to be actual length of the path covered by someone or something.
