A cardiac cycle includes all the events that takes place as the blood flow during one complete heart beat.

The events that are included in a cardiac cycle are

  • Atrial diastole
  • Ventricular diastole
  • Atrial systole
  • Ventricular systole

When the cardiac muscles contract, depression within the heart increases and the blood is forced out – This process is called as systole.

Atrial systole refers to the process in which blood is forced out of the atrium whereas ventricular systole refers to the process in which blood is formed out of the ventricle.

When the cardiac muscles relaxes, the pressure within the heart decreases, which allows the blood to flow inside the atria and ventricles – this process is called diastole.

Atrial diastole refers to the process in which blood enters the atrium whereas ventricular diastole refers to the process in which blood enters the ventricle.

The cardiac cycle is an element of human circulatory system which is a double system. This means that blood enters the heart 2 times – one through systemic circulation and the other through pulmonary circulation.

FLOWCHART  :-

Atrial diastole ← Atrial systole ← Ventricular diastole ← Ventricular systole

This process of cardiac cycle happens 2 times that is one during the pulmonary circulation and the other during the systemic circulation.

Through Vena-cava > Right Atria > Right ventricle > Through pulmonary artery > Lungs > Gaseous exchange > Through pulmonary vein > Left Atria > Left Ventricle > Through Aorta > Body

This is how a circulation takes place.

In a pulmonary circulation , gaseous exchange takes place together Oxygen and eliminate carbon dioxide.

In a systemic circulation , the blood is pumped under high pressure to all the parts of the body, to supply oxygen and other nutrients and take up carbon dioxide and other waste.

Answer:

The cardiac cycle is defined as a sequence of alternating contraction and relaxation of the atria and ventricles in order to pump blood throughout the body. ... In other words, when the atria are in diastole, the ventricles are in systole and vice versa.
